Multnomah Stories:

Belleza Sahir, M.A. TESOL ’23

Multnomah University is proud to celebrate the achievements of our exceptional students who have worked hard to earn their degrees, including Belleza Sahir, who graduated Spring 2023 with a master’s degree from our TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) program.

Belleza

Belleza grew up in New York, but took a leap of faith towards her career in language education by moving to Papua, Indonesia to work at Papua Hope Language Institute (PHLI). Belleza was offered a scholarship to Multnomah through PHLI, which opened her eyes to a TESOL degree. After debating on taking the opportunity, she made the difficult decision to go back to school online while she continued to teach and create curriculum at PHLI.

Throughout her studies, Belleza worked diligently to strike a balance between learning how to become a teacher through Multnomah’s program and applying her skills as a teacher in Papua, Indonesia with PHLI. Her dedication and commitment are a testament to her perseverance and passion for education.

Even with the challenges she faced her first year of teaching in Indonesia, she remained focused, describing it as a learning experience to identify the areas where she needed to improve. Since completing her Master’s in TESOL from Multnomah University, Belleza has felt more confident in her teaching abilities and curriculum creation for PHLI.

Belleza’s time at Multnomah shaped the growth of her skillset and professional career. Despite facing challenges in her first year, her perseverance and passion for education prevailed. Belleza’s success is a testament to the quality of education provided by Multnomah University’s TESOL program.
